HAIR REGROWTH IN WOMEN
Hair loss in women is an issue that leads to gross loss of self-esteem and in many cases causes psychological trauma. Where chances of successful treatment do increase with early diagnosis and care most of them suffer in silence, while some of them alter lifestyles to hide their patches.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF HAIR LOSS IN WOMEN ARE:
- Alopecia: This autoimmune condition also has several sub-types – alopecia areata, alopecia totalis, alopecia universalis, androgenetic alopecia, alopecia barbae and cicatricial alopecia.
- Traction alopecia: usually occurs due to excessive pulling of hair – practicing certain harsh hairstyles. The different sub-types of traction alopecia are anagen effluvium and telogen effluvium.
Besides the above, hair loss is also genetic and is a popularly-known side effect of chemotherapy.
CAUSES OF HAIR LOSS IN WOMEN:
- Heredity and genetics: More often hair loss or androgenetic alopecia is a hereditary trait. This is also the most common cause of hair loss. If the gene is developed then women acquire a thinning hairline right behind the bangs. The condition starts very early (maybe by the 20s) and progresses slowly.
- Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism: Women are highly likely to have thyroid disease. With a deficiency in the production of the hormone, which is responsible for maintaining the metabolism and heart rate, individuals develop an underactive thyroid. Hair loss is one of the biggest symptoms of hypothyroidism. Besides, women can also experience muscle weakness, constipation, depression, fatigue, etc. Hyperthyroidism also results in hair loss. Symptoms besides hair thinning are – unexplained weight loss, startled appearance of the eyes, etc.
- Lupus: An autoimmune disease that affects the body’s immune systems and damages the healthy tissues.
- Iron deficiency anaemia: This affects when the intake of iron-rich food is insufficient. The condition causes extreme fatigue, pale skin, headaches, etc. besides hair loss.
- PCOS or polycystic ovarian syndrome: A hormonal imbalance with the ovaries.
